Book of Shadows

Most Pagans/Wiccans these days have a Book of Shadows. They may be as simple a composition book, or detailed, like the one from Charmed. They contain your knowledge thus far on your magical journey. Spells, recipes,
charts, etc...are housed therein. From the humble beginnings of the ancient people recording their traditions, to this witches "life saver". The grimoire will always be one of my favorite tools...

A couple of months ago I decided that my BOS (Book of Shadows) need a makeover. Ever one to dive right in, like a kid in a candy store, I rose to the challenge. Lacking funds to turn my trusty 3 ring binder into an ornate book, like the one from The Neverending Story, I set out glam up my BOS. First, I searched through my scrap booking goodies for some paper and other shapes. Then to the craft bucket for the necessaries.
A few things you may need:
  • something to cover your book with. It can be paper, cloth, or leather, whatever floats your boat.
  • cutting instruments
  • glue (I had to use hot glue as well for the cover)
  • tape
  • markers
  • dividers are handy for organization
go hog wild...I have had the same binder for 11 years.  It is a warehouse of my thoughts, wishes and hopes for all these years, and even contains some of my energy. So poured my heart and soul into making my BOS into something more...kind of like a good deed for something that has served me well for a long time.

However you decorate it, however you use it, whatever you put inside it, your BOS is an expression of yourself, and what you believe to be true. May yours serve you well!

  1. This is beautiful, so much more interesting and personal than the expensive books I've often drooled over in online stores. Thank you for sharing this idea, I am excited to try making my own!

  3. Thank you very much for the feedback! This was an exciting project for me, and also overly due. It definitely has come a long way from plain black notebook. Now it's more organized with those dividers I concocted...lol...I feel like it has more of a personality. Good luck Sanil, hope it turns out beautiful! Have a great weekend!
